Tough call

I am sure at first glance you might have already figured out what this post is about...Derek and I had to make a VERY tough decision yesterday.  We had to put Toby to sleep, and boy did that suck bad.  Not to dwell on the sadness, but for those who didn't know, right before Christmas Toby got pancreatitus.  We worked for days to try and nurse him back to health, but in the end he was old (12 years) and I think he knew deep down that it was time.  So as hard as it was, we made a tough call and sent Mr. T to doggy heaven (or heben as Jocelyn calls it) :)

Now, onto the story of Toby.  I got Toby the summer inbetween my freshman and sophomore year at college.  My college roommate and I went to Canton to look for furniture for our first "real" apartment!  We made the mistake (one of the best mistakes ever probably) of going to dog alley to check out the puppies.  I absolutely fell in love with the little yorkies, and was convinced that my 19 year old self was totally ready for this type of responsibility.  I came home and told my Dad about this cute little puppy I had found, and just cried and cried about the fact that he needed to be with me and not with the creepy breeder lady.  So, out of desperation to get me to SHUT UP, my sweet father told me that he would get me the dog if I would stop crying.  I quickly dried my tears, hopped in the car and drove back to canton to get my Toby dog!
He was such a good dog, and YES...he slept with us every night.  Our own child doesn't even sleep with us! HA!

He was my baby before I had a baby...but even after having a baby....he was still my baby ;)

Not really sure why we always felt compelled to "put" Toby into things?!

Toby and Jocelyn had a "love-hate" relationship.  Jocelyn loved Toby...and he hated her!  He was just so use to being the only one and not having a kiddo pulling his ears, etc.

I do realize that this is the second picture of Toby on our kitchen table.  This just goes to show how much of a human we thought he was.

As much as Derek wouldn't admit it at first, he was pretty crazy about Toby too!  They were total bud's...and they would cuddle on the couch and watch "sports".  My heart broke to pieces when I saw how much Toby's passing effected him, ugh!

We will miss you little guy.  We know you are in a better place and are watching over us.

  2. I'm so sorry. It is such a hard thing to go through, especially with the little dogs that are with us for so long. :(

  3. I'm so sorry to hear the sad news! I remember you hiding Toby's crate in your closet in College Station to get out of paying for the pet deposit. He was such a great dog!
