Grayson's Nursery

When we found out that we were going to have a boy, we were so excited...but, I immediately got really anxious about how to decorate the nursery.  Those who know me well would not be shocked to hear that I had an entire design board going for a girls nursery.  So, when I started to think about a boy's nursery, I was completely lost.  Annnnnd to top it off, Derek all of a sudden had an opinion on "decorating"??!!  Ummm, Im sorry....where were you kind sir when we were decorating Jocelyn's nursery 3 years ago?? :)

After several weeks of bickering, Derek found an inspiration!  YES....it was Derek's idea that was implemented in this nursery.

When Derek turned 15, he and his Dad started fixing up a 1952 beat up Chevy pick up truck.  The engine was frozen, so they had a lot of fixing to do before the truck was ready to drive by the time he turned 16.  Derek, his Dad, brother and some of his buddies were always working on it together, and had a lot of fun doing it.

Which brings me to how we implemented this sentimental story into Grayson's nursery.  Derek and his Dad went to the junk yard where they got a lot of the parts to fix up his truck many years ago, and came home with a Chevrolet tailgate to hang in the room.

A view from the door.  The best I could do to try and get a shot of the whole room.

Derek made the barn doors behind the crib from old pallets he salvaged at work.  The look we were going for was a rustic/industrial barn look where you would be fixing up a 1952 pick up.

A close up of the barn doors.  We hung working lanterns flanking either side of the doors.
I am not completely done with this corner, but I plan to hang some sort of basket on the wall to hold Grayson's books.  So, this will be his little reading nook.

This is an actual picture of Derek, his brother and one of his buddies hanging out from underneath the Chevy pick up.  Derek's Dad digitally enhanced the picture to make it more modern and to fit the décor of the room.  I think it turned out awesome!

Grayson's glider, and a picture of the tailgate hanging up.

We made curtain rods out of galvanized piping (thank you pinterest) to give it more of an industrial feel.

Aunt Blaire made Grayson a measuring stick similar to what she made for Jocelyn, and it turned out so cute, I love it!

All in all, Grayson's nursery turned out perfect and I can't wait to bring him home to live in it!
